Every Datadog account accumulates dashboards. Very few accumulate dashboards anyone looks at. The difference is rarely aesthetic: a dashboard earns attention by answering a question someone actually has, is this healthy, what changed, where is the money going, and by answering it faster than the alternative.

Dashboard setup basics covers the foundations: timeboards versus screenboards, template variables, and layouts that put the answer at the top. Log dashboards deserve their own treatment, because turning raw log volume into something a human can scan is a different problem from charting metrics.

As the estate grows, so does the question of who sees what. Role-based dashboard access keeps customer data, cost data and security views scoped to the people who should see them, which matters from the first compliance questionnaire onwards.
