The challenge
The challenge
The platform's Azure spend had grown with the business, and its pricing had not kept pace. Most of the estate ran on flexible pay-as-you-go pricing, with SQL the biggest share of the bill. As a regulated firm, any change to production had to be low risk.

What we did
What we did
- Analysed five months of Azure spend, resource by resource.
- Ranked every saving by value, effort and risk, separating firm savings from options that need a business decision.
- Moved production databases onto a SQL pricing model that supports reservations and Azure Hybrid Benefit.
- Moved virtual machines onto current-generation compute.

The outcome
The outcome
- Up to a third of Azure spend identified to save, an estimated £70k to £115k a year.
- A ranked plan the team can work through, with firm savings identified and the bigger options ready for a decision.
- Production SQL ready to benefit from reservations and Hybrid Benefit.
