The challenge

The challenge

Moving a bank's infrastructure, database and website monitoring, and the on-call rota that depends on it, onto a new platform is a change the whole operation feels. The bank chose Datadog as its single monitoring and on-call platform and decided its own engineers would lead the move, with experienced Datadog engineers on hand for the first four months.

02
What we did

What we did

  • Gave the bank's engineers direct access to our Datadog engineers in a shared chat, with a weekly call to keep progress moving.
  • Made sure alerts reach the right support team.
  • Advised on monitor design, so individual assets can be taken down for maintenance without silencing whole groups.
  • Built a location-based wireless network dashboard for the network team.
  • Worked with Datadog and the bank's team to make on-call more dependable.
03
The outcome

The outcome

  • Datadog is now the bank's live monitoring and on-call platform, covering infrastructure, databases and websites.
  • On-call monitoring signed off by the bank's technical and operational leads before go-live.
  • Alerts flowing straight into the bank's service desk and on-call app, routed to the right team.
  • The bank's own engineers now run and extend the platform, with a clear plan for what comes next.
