The challenge
The challenge
Azure estates that grow across regions and subscriptions tend to stay on pay-as-you-go pricing and default settings long after the business has outgrown them, and the native tools do not say which changes matter most. The platform, used by governing bodies, venues, clubs and coaches, chose an independent review against Microsoft's Well-Architected Framework, with cost as the priority.

What we did
What we did
- Reviewed the estate across every Well-Architected pillar, using read-only access so the review added no risk to the live platform.
- Showed where reservations, leaner logging outside production and a clean-up of unused resources would cut the bill.
- Ranked security improvements by priority and targeted new security spend where it matters most.
- Set out a path to better Microsoft pricing through an Enterprise Agreement or Microsoft Customer Agreement.

The outcome
The outcome
- Up to an estimated £200k a year of potential Azure savings identified.
- The team has since made savings from the plan.
- One prioritised plan covering cost, security and reliability.
- A clear path to strengthen security controls, with targeted rather than blanket spend.
