The challenge

The challenge

This fintech, behind a multi-sector financial advice platform, had moved from physical hosting to Azure and was moving towards microservices. Its Azure costs were already well managed, with reservations in place. It chose an independent review against Microsoft's Well-Architected Framework to check the whole platform and plan what comes next.

What we did

What we did

  • Reviewed the estate across every Well-Architected pillar, through read-only access so the review added no risk to the live platform.
  • Used the existing Datadog integration alongside Azure's own tools, so the recommendations rested on real usage data.
  • Ranked security, operations and resilience actions as high, medium or low, with a short executive summary for leadership.
  • Set out how to make the platform more resilient and scale more smoothly as it grows.
  • Confirmed the strength of the existing cost position and listed the smaller savings still available.

The outcome

The outcome

  • A clear, ranked plan to strengthen security controls, tidy up operations and improve resilience.
  • Confidence that Azure costs were already well managed, with a short list of further savings to consider.
  • A shared view of priorities that engineering and leadership can act on.
