From a fast Datadog rollout to a new AI product on Azure
An insurance technology provider now runs Datadog across its Azure estate, has new AI infrastructure built as code, and a clear design for its next platform.
The challenge
Growing software teams are often asked to adopt new tools, build new products and modernise their platform at once, without in-house cloud specialists. This insurance technology provider had chosen Datadog to replace its previous monitoring, was building a new AI product on Azure, and planned to rebuild its core platform on containers. It chose one engineering partner for all three, starting with the Datadog rollout.
What we did
- Rolled Datadog out across the Azure estate, with automated onboarding and consistent tagging so every service reports the same way.
- Gave the application support team a live service status dashboard and alerts, then handed over with a runbook and training.
- Built the Azure infrastructure for the new AI product in sprints alongside the customer's engineers, defined as code with automated pipelines and monitoring built in.
- Advised on the new platform's architecture and produced a phased infrastructure design.
The outcome
- Datadog in use across more than 140 Azure web services, replacing the previous monitoring.
- AI infrastructure built as code and monitored from the start.
- An approach the team plans to reuse: the AI build proved infrastructure as code and automated pipelines were the way forward for the new platform.
- A clear, phased platform design built on industry practice rather than home-grown workarounds.
